Our Lappish Wedding Journey
After many years of planning we decided to get married and decided that we would do this overseas, the difficult decision was finding a suitable venue. The choices were somewhere hot and sunny or go for something completely different. As we like to travel to the places that no one else goes to and we wanted to do something completely different we went to Northern Finland 170 km (110 miles) inside the Arctic circle where the temperature on the day was a warm -9 degrees.
The little touches that matter
When we entered our hotel room we were met with a card, chocolates and prosecco from the hotel which was a lovely gesture and such a wonderful touch.

Wedding Venue
We opted to have our wedding in a traditional Finnish Kota out in the wilderness. The wedding was organised wonderfully by Rue at sun and snow weddings, https://www.sunandsnowweddings.com/
Wedding Ceremony
Our service was simple and stunning in which we had our special vows, which is a deviation from UK weddings where these are more formal.
I, KEITH, do take you, HEATHER, to be my lawfully wedded wife, my best friend, my partner in life and my one true love. I promise to encourage and inspire you and to love you truly through good times and bad. I will forever be there to laugh with you, lift you up when you are down, and to love you throughout all of our adventures in life together.
The service was conducted by the fire downstairs at the Kota.
You are now married
Start of married life for Mr and Mrs Hughes.

The upper part of the Kota
We could have had the ceremony in the upper part of the Kota but opted for the cosy warmth of a fire.

Into the Wilderness we go
Not many people get sent off to the wilderness to start their married life but then why be normal.

Elves Village
To make our wedding more memorable we went to the Elves village to have photographs taken, which we think are fabulous.

Fancy a lift home
Mr and Mrs H ride off in the distance, well we would have if there were keys in the machine.

Final Photographic Location
Another location and another set of amazing pictures.

Return to the Kota
This is now the end of our amazing Lappish wedding day.

Time to get warm and a final set of photographs.

Bouquet
It wasn’t possible to get the bouquet back to the UK as you can’t import plants following Brexit. One consolation is that the pictures will last longer than the flowers.
